vCenter 6.7 – 503 Service Unavailable Failed to connect to endpoint – No login screen

In this case our vCenter went unresponsive, and the login won’t show up – instead giving us this message:

503 Service Unavailable (Failed to connect to endpoint: [N7Vmacore4Http20NamedPipeServiceSpecE:0x00007f569400ad80] _serverNamespace = / action = Allow _pipeName =/var/run/vmware/vpxd-webserver-pipe)

We tried:

-Restarting services

-Restarting the vCenter

-Ran the sts renewal script for certificates, but they were still valid and this did nothing

-Restarting the networking, but couldn’t edit further (first thing that caught our eye)

-Restoring a backup, with the same problem

The problem was that we used a Virtual Distributed Switch as the main networking of the appliance.

What worked on our case was:

-Unregistering the VCSA from the original cluster with vDS

-Registering the VM on another host with classic VLAN management (non distributed)

-Delete the networking of the VM

-Adding new networking to the VM with classic approach (vSwitch with VLAN ID)

-Starting the appliance, it worked right away
